The growing use of internet and personal pages, like
blogs, videologs and messenger programs, brought webcams into our daily
lives. There isn't a safety mode devised to use cams. A person can expose
oneself to a stranger, who in turn sends it to others.
Recently, a New Jersey's 19 years old student, Gary Brolsma,
, footage himself singing jocosely the "Dragostea Din Tei",
from the O-Zone pop group. He showed it to some friends and relatives,
and then, some of those receiving copies also send it to other 'good friends',
until Gary's image became famous and his video appeared on TV channels
like CNN and VH1. The teenager didn't like the exposition, and doesn't
answer telephone calls anymore. His family says he's ashamed with the
situation.
Others however love being under the spot light and have
more than one webcam in their household. They lost the sense of reality
and started to interpret in real life, as in a Big Brother TV show. The
first expelled competitor of the first series, made in Holland, in 1999,
tried to kill himself when leaving the den. Worryingly however, is when
the victim is not aware of circumstances. For example, there was a 17-year-old
girl, in Brazil, captured having sex with a 17-year boy. Intercourse ended
up on the internet. Now, gone out of control.
The next best thing is only expose oneself to those with
proven reliability, and in front of the camera, never do anything that
may cause regret later. If the person intents to have cybersex by means
of webcam, it's fundamental that the other deserves trust laid on, otherwise,
there's the risk of own images ended up without permission on the net.
If desperately so-wishes to expose attributes to one another, although
not knowing each other, a preventive measure is anything that may give
it away to be disguised.
